Have You Seen Her
Have you seen her living in her world-
Dancing among poppies
And running through fields
To music
Spinning round in
Her cranium
That only she hears?
Have you seen her playing with
Friends of her own invention?
Stuffed animals sitting on shelves
With fluff in their ears
And glass in their eyes?
Have you seen how she stays inside her
Room for days and nights
Staring at the ceiling
That projects her daydreams
On white drywall-
Staring
Like they're Michelangelo's
Masterpieces of the Vatican?
I bet you haven't seen her
Around university
Or at a party
Or out after hours
But
I bet you haven't seen her
Giving an ounce of a damn
What "everyone" does these days.
So she'll keep spinning her mind records
And swimming in melting colors
And twirling with silent animals
More real
Than some people she knows.
Sipping tea instead of beer
She'll keep gazing upwards-
Trying to forget all the eyes
In front of her
Asking
"Have You Seen Her."
